Week 4 – Feel the pain
This week started with the first networking event with our potential mentors. We were having 8-minute chat with some of the mentors and once the time was up, the mentor moved to the next team. We are very excited to talk with experienced business people and professionals to learn from them and show what we are doing. We bounced ideas and learnt heaps! After the event, it as clear that with some of the people we were on the same page and we are keen to work together with them on a regular basis. Hopefully, this is a start of some great relationships.
The rest of the week was exploring the pain from self-employed people – even if it meant late evening conversations with tea and cookies at home. Currently, we see that the pain is there as self-employed people don’t really know what they don’t know. Especially when they start out they struggle to find the right information and create their own system. We would really love to help them and come up with a great solution, at the same time bringing relevant agencies on board.
The highlight of the week was the Small business roadshow event. Even the prime minister was present and gave a speech. We met with different government agencies, potential stakeholders and it was great fun.
Three takeaways from this week:
- The worst that you can receive is a ‘no’, so always ask, even when you are 99.9% sure of a ‘no’!
- It inspires us to move forward when we hear all the amazing stories from self-employed people.
- Quote of the week: “I’m 77, I can do whatever I want”.
We are looking forward to our next week and the new financial year!
