Week 3 – Welcome to government
On the week 2, we were introduced to our second government navigator. She is doing an amazing job. Initially, we couldn’t almost keep up to the speed with all the new people that we had a chance to meet. We were setting up the meetings with various stakeholders in government agencies. Our initial target was to talk as much as we can to identify pain points for the agencies.
Under usual circumstances, we would have had one supporting agency from the very beginning. In our case, we were starting from a blank page. MBIE and R9 decided that helping self-employed people is a very good opportunity (we completely agree with them!) and it was put forward for the R9 accelerator. Yes, that’s right – there is a difference between R9 and R9 Accelerator!
As a result, currently we don’t have one agency, but we are working with all the possible government stakeholders. And it makes the life a bit more interesting. Now we know where IR, MBIE and ACC offices are located. On the second day, a lady at IR reception already recognised us and welcomed us with a huge smile on her face.
Generally speaking, we think that we have achieved a lot in this week. Some people were very supportive, others a bit cautious and wanted to know more about what we are doing. There have been meetings that were totally off the chart, others were very productive and informative.
Three takeaways from this week:
- Prepare questions before meeting with agencies and read as much as you can on the topic.
- Agencies have assumptions what other agencies are doing.
- People are willing to introduce you to somebody, you just have to ask.
We are looking forward to our next week where we will explore more both from the agency side as well as self-employed people.
